It is a complete and obvious contrivance. Satan's mythic mark does not include a "0." But no matter. It worked.

Normally sane-minded journalists everywhere swallowed it whole and gave the moviemakers copious amounts of free publicity. Also maybe helped give a couple of knuckleheads an excuse to pretend it was Satan's birthday.

"Happy Birthday Satan" was just one of the things David Groth, a Hartford teenager, and his cousin Tyler Groth are charged with spray-painting on the shrine buildings and statues that form the life-sized Stations of the Cross.

According to the complaint charging them with criminal damage to religious property, they also spray-painted things such as "I'm glad they killed Jesus," "Hell will rule" and "Hail, Satin," which I don't think was supposed to be a paean to paint."
